Represented his native Peru in Davis Cup in 1988, playing doubles with
Jaime Yzaga. Member of the Peruvian team since 1986-present.
Attended Pepperdine University for two years. Captured the 1985 NCAA
doubles title with Kelly Jones and earned All-America honors. Turned pro
shortly after.
Ranked No. 1 in the South American junior 16s and 18s.
Reached the 1989 French Open doubles semifinals (w/Bathman), a Grand Slam
best. Jumped from 107 to No. 43, a career-high, on the ATP doubles computer
rankings (June 12, 1989). He earned a career-high in singles on May 12,
1986 at No. 92.
