Following Wesley Koolhof’s retirement from professional tennis in November, the Dutchman has embraced an exciting new chapter. Koolhof and former WTA star Julia Goerges tied the knot on 14 December.
Koolhof, a former No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, and Goerges shared several photos on Instagram from their wedding day.
"[I'm] very happy with how this year has gone, personally and on the tennis court. Happy to say goodbye to this year on a high note," Koolhof told ATPTour.com. "I'm looking forward to spending some time with Julia and the dogs at home."
The German Goerges retired from pro tennis in October 2020 following a standout career in which she won seven WTA titles and climbed to a career-high World No. 9.
Koolhof played his final professional match in the Davis Cup Final 8 last month. The 35-year-old bade farewell in style, joining forces with Botic van de Zandschulp to oust Spaniards Carlos Alcaraz and Marcel Granollers, a match that secured a 2-1 victory for the Netherlands and sent Rafael Nadal into retirement.
Koolhof partnered Nikola Mektic for much of the 2024 season. They won five tour-level trophies — three at ATP Masters 1000 level — and qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals. Koolhof claimed 21 tour-level doubles titles with various partners throughout his career.
"Malaga [for Davis Cup] was a very special moment, especially after things ended in Turin, to at least get the opportunity to play one more match," Koolhof said when reflecting on his final month of competition. "In the end, kind of a dream scenario, playing the last deciding match against Spain. A lot of emotions on that day for all of us... If you look back at it, it was probably the best way to end my career."
