Began playing tennis at age 13.

Studied karate for years while growing up then switched to tennis. Loves
to jet ski, swim and enjoys slow music and movies.
Father, Andres, was the former No. 2 in Europe in swimming (butterfly).
He works as an engineer for an American company. Mother, Conchita, is a house
wife. Along with brother, Andres, has sister Ann Marie.
Born in Tangier, but moved to Marbella, Spain in 1986. Attended a French
school in Tangier during the day and an American school for two hours every
night.
Speaks English, French, German, and Spanish. Often serves as the "tour
translator" for the Spaniards on the ATP Tour. Best friends are Nicola Bruno
and Juan Carlos Baguena.
