Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic found their cutting edge in the nick of time on Wednesday at the Miami Open presented by Itau.

The top-seeded pair let slip nine of 10 break points it earned but still prevailed 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 against Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in a hard-fought quarter-final clash. Arevalo and Pavic, the joint No. 1s in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, struck 14 aces to boost their cause according to Infosys ATP Stats.

Now 16-5 for the year and on an eight-match winning streak following their title run at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Arevalo and Pavic will continue their quest for the coveted ‘Sunshine Double’ in a semi-final meeting with Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus, who downed Christian Harrison and Evan King 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

It All Adds Up

In the first men’s doubles match of the day, sixth seeds Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool also clinched a semi-final spot with a 7-6(1), 3-6, 10-8 victory against Yuki Bhambri and Nuno Borges.

Cash and Glasspool have won three ATP Tour crowns together, including ATP 500 titles in Tokyo last year and Doha last month, but this is the first time the pair has been past the second round at an ATP Masters 1000. The all-British duo will contest its maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head clash with second seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten in the last four.
