Second seed Casper Ruud withdrew from the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC on Wednesday evening due to a stomach ailment, sending #NextGenATP teenager Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez to the quarter-finals.

The Norwegian, who reached the final of the ATP 500 last year, raced through his first-round match against Arthur Rinderknech on Monday to record his 10th match win of 2025, but was unable to take the court again in his fourth Acapulco appearance.

"I’m so sorry I had to pull out tonight. I was hoping to overcome this stomach illness that showed up yesterday and tried everything I could to be able to play tonight, until the very last moment 🤒," Ruud wrote on Instagram. "Hoping to come back stronger in a couple of days and come back here to Mexico next year. Thanks for now, Acapulco ❤️!"

It All Adds Up

The 19-year-old home hope Pacheco Mendez will meet seventh seed Frances Tiafoe or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the last eight. The Mexican on Tuesday became the youngest man from his country to win an ATP Tour match since 1996.

American Tommy Paul also withdrew due to a stomach ailment. His scheduled opponent, countryman Marcos Giron, will take on ninth seed Denis Shapovalov in the last eight. The Canadian eliminated Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-3.
