Started year by qualifying for Doha and defeating No. 4 Becker in the 2nd RD before losing to Prinosil in the QF...Earned his second Top 10 victory of season with a 2nd RD, straight-set win over then No. 1 Muster at Key Biscayne before losing to Edberg in the next round...Injured his right knee in match against Muster and played only two matches (both Davis Cup losses the first week of April) in the next nine weeks...Underwent arthroscopic surgery on April 23...Went 2-5 after returning until breaking through in Newport for his second career ATP Tour title (d.
