After attending Grossmont Junior College and Arizona State University,
he decided to turn pro in 1982.
He didn't start playing tennis until age 15-16 after competing in track,
football and baseball.
He lost a tough 19-17 fifth set to Paul McNamee in the first round at
the 1987 Wimbledon, but came back later in the year as a "Lucky Loser" to
reach the semifinals in San Francisco.
Earned a career-high $62,657 in 1987.
Reached two doubles finals in 1989, the first of his career. Ranked No.
486 in singles, No. 99 in doubles.
