Carsten Arriens was appointed Germany’s Davis Cup captain on 22 November 2012. Arriens, who replaced Patrik Kuehnen, who had been captain since 2003, had been working as a coach for the German Tennis Federation since 2002.
Arriens reached a career-high ranking of World No. 109 during a professional career, which lasted from 1991 to 1999. He played in four Grand Slam tournaments and won one tour title at Guaruja on 1 November 1992. As a qualifier, he beat Alex Corretja.
