    • Mother is a former professional player who has coached him since age 5 and runs a tennis academy in Vaughan, Canada.
    • Developed trademark backhand as a junior. "When I was small a lot of people would get the ball up to my backhand," recalls Shapovalov. "I remember one practice I just got tired of going back all of the time, so I hit a couple in the air and they worked out well, so it’s just been a natural shot for me."
    • Favourite surface is grass, shot is overhead smash and tournament is ATP Masters 1000 Canada.
    • Idol growing up was Roger Federer. As a 15-year-old junior, warmed Federerup for his 2014 Toronto SF match.
    • Slept in Felix Auger-Aliassime's basement during SF run at 2017 Montreal. Ripped poster of Rafael Nadal off wall before beating Spaniard in 3R.
    • Named ATP Newcomer of the Year and ATP Most Improved Player of the Year in 2017.
    • Also named 2017recipient of the Lionel Conacher Award for Canada’s Male Athlete of the Year by The Canadian Press.

    • After becoming1st Canadian US Open men’s singles quarter-finalist in 2020, became 2nd of 3 Canadian men (Raonic, Auger-Aliassime) to rank in Top 10on 21September 2020.
    • Defeated 2-time champion Murray and earned 5-set wins over Kohlschreiber and Khachanov en route to 1st Grand Slam SF at 2021 Wimbledon (l. to No. 1 Djokovic).
    • Reached 2019 Paris final and 4other ATP Masters 1000 SFs, including 2017 Montreal, where he upset No. 2 Nadal and became youngest semi-finalist in series history at age 18 (since 1990).
    • Beat Carreno Busta to begin 2022 ATP Cup final and Kokkinakis to begin 2022 Davis Cup final, helping Canada sweep both team titles.
    • Ended junior career with 2016 Wimbledon boys’ singles title, then broke into Top 50 of Pepperstone ATP Rankings less than 15 months later.
