Born in a small town, Sangju, famous for dried persimmons.

Father, Younghun, is a talented amateur tennis player; mother, Eunmi; sisters, Hakyung and Sookyung. Big sister, Hakyung, was 2015 Miss Korea (Gyeongbuk Province).
Favourite surface is hard and favourite shots are down-the-line forehand and drop shot.
Likes eating chocolate, but only on court to give him energy. Spotted eating Kit Kats during a match at 2020 US Open.
Wanted to be a football player until he started playing tennis.
Moved to Seoul at age 16, where he went to high school with fellow ATP player Duckhee Lee.
Enjoys going to the karaoke to sing with friends on his days off.
