Rafael Nadal retired at the end of last season, but the Spaniard still has a close eye on the ATP Tour. The former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings congratulated two of his longtime colleagues on their retirement in the past two weeks.
The 38-year-old on Wednesday paid tribute to countryman Fernando Verdasco, who played the final match of his career in Doha alongside Novak Djokovic.
“We've experienced great battles on the court and very nice moments with Spain at the Davis Cup! Congratulations on your great career, @FerVerdasco!” Nadal wrote. “I hope you can now keep enjoying your family even more and your new challenges, see you soon!”

The Spaniards played doubles together eight times on the ATP Tour, first doing so nearly 20 years ago (July 2005). They are two of the 20 players from their country who have cracked the Top 10 in the PIF ATP Rankings. Nadal claimed 17 of their 20 Lexus ATP Head2Head matches.
Nadal also shared a message with Diego Schwartzman last week. The lefty won 11 of his 12 Lexus ATP Head2Head meetings against the Argentine, with their most recent clash coming in the 2021 Roland Garros quarter-finals.
